If you are a massage therapy student nearing the end of your training, finding work as a massage therapist is probably foremost in your mind. After all the time and money you invested in massage school, it’s time to get out in the world and start making the most of that investment!
Your training program should have given you all the necessary skills to work in a spa or massage clinic. But it can still be intimidating to join the workforce and compete against more seasoned massage therapists. You will have to convince potential employers that although you are fresh out of school, you have both the skill and the dedication to be a valuable addition to their team.
Finding Massage Spa Job Openings
Do a search on Craigslist or some other job posting site to see if any local spas are hiring. However, even if places aren’t advertising for new employees, it doesn’t hurt to submit a resume and cover letter anyway. Sometimes you can get in under the wire, before they advertise. Or they may keep your resume and call you when they have positions available.
It’s never, ever a good idea to lie on your resume. Believe it or not, people do follow up on the claims you make on your resume. But you can certainly make the most of the experience you do have. Don’t downplay your credentials or qualifications, highlight them!
Interning as a Massage Therapist
A proactive strategy is to start sending out inquiries to spas before you have graduated from your massage therapy program. If they’re willing to work with a student intern, the situation can be mutually beneficial. You will get real-world experience, and they will receive your services for a discount.
